Anchored By An Instantly Legendary Performance, “Marty Supreme” Is Outrageous, Original, And Chaotically Entertaining

“Marty Supreme” fits right at home in the Safdie brothers’ subgenre of charismatic, resourceful assholes flying by the seat of their pants in total desperation for greatness. And hot dawg, it’s probably the best, just an instant classic and one of the best movies of the year.

2.5 hours of pure and outrageous cinematic chaos, it’s one of the most original movies I’ve seen in years, with a plot that goes places you’re surprised to find yourself in time and time again. And it all hinges on one of the best medleys of character and performance in ages, with Timothee Chalamet absolutely crushing the titular role of a man so possessed by his confidence in his greatness and destiny that he leaves people around him in ruin. It’s a charismatic character that’s despicable, a character you root for who you’re regularly appalled with, and endlessly interesting.

Just one of those larger than life kind of American movies that only come around once in a while, and an unrelentingly awesome addition to what’s turned into a truly great year for movies.
